The billowing, cloaked drones of Michael Bailey’s Invisible Path have been coaxed any number of ways – bowed gongs, amplifier triangulation, e-bow ritual, etc – but few recordings to date have captured the project's enveloping, planetary aura as vividly as The Levitating Mirror. Thick electric mists hang above sub-bass synths while a distant metronome clangs in the sky. The muted rhythmic dimension of these pieces gives them a shadowy forward motion, like some obscenely abstract ambient techno record pitched to 12 BPM.

The mood moves from meditative and mesmerized (“Unraveling Threat Of Light”) to drugged and dissolved (“Escaped Into The Mist,” “Decompression”) before plummeting into industrialized, subterranean blackness (“Descension”). One of the more transportive headphone bio-domes in recent years. Plug into the Path.

Very atmospheric piece of work. Google tells me Arktika is the name of a Russian ice breaker and this music does conjure up a slow moving behemoth ploughing it's way through a frozen landscape. I would say if you like Vangelis this would appeal Anthony Davies
